Zero Maternal Mortality Achieved in Shahroud and Meyami Over the Past Five Years

Shahroud University of Medical Sciences has announced a significant achievement in maternal and child health, reporting zero maternal mortality in Shahroud and Meyami over the past five years. Speaking at a ceremony marking the International Day of the Midwife, Dr. Mohammad Hassan Emamian, President of the University, commended midwives for their dedication and emphasized their critical role in advancing maternal and neonatal health outcomes. He highlighted the importance of early breastfeeding and immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth, describing them as essential practices that contribute to the long-term health of newborns and future generations.

Dr. Emamian further noted that, alongside zero maternal mortality, neonatal mortality rates in the region have declined to levels comparable with those of European countries. He also underscored the importance of reducing cesarean section rates, stating that promoting natural childbirth remains a key priority of the national health system, achievable through continued education and advocacy led by midwives. Referring to national population policies, he described midwives as playing a pivotal role in supporting population growth and encouraging childbearing. In closing, Dr. Emamian expressed his appreciation for the commitment of midwives during times of crisis and conflict, noting that their continued presence alongside mothers contributed to encouraging birth outcomes during challenging periods.
