Introduction

The School of Public Health at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences (SHMU) is a leading academic center committed to advancing population health through excellence in education, impactful research, and dedicated community service. Located in Shahroud, Semnan Province, the school trains the next generation of public health professionals, equipping them to address complex health challenges at regional, national, and international levels.

Academic Programs

The School of Public Health offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs that integrate theory, research, and practical training. Current programs include:

  1. Epidemiology (B.Sc. and M.Sc.):
    The primary goal of the Epidemiology Department is to tackle major public health challenges and improve community health. Its mission revolves around education, research, and service, aimed at achieving health equity and advancing population well-being.

  2. Occupational Health (B.Sc.):
    Training students to promote workplace safety, prevent occupational hazards, and implement health programs in professional settings.

  3. Continuous Bachelor’s Program in Public Health (B.Sc.):
    Providing foundational knowledge and practical skills in public health for immediate contribution to community health initiatives.

  4. Environmental Health (B.Sc. and M.Sc.):
    Preparing graduates to address environmental factors affecting health, including water, air, soil, and food safety, and to implement programs for environmental protection and health promotion.

These programs combine strong theoretical foundations with hands-on experience, ensuring graduates are competent to contribute effectively in public health practice, research, and policy-making.

Research Excellence

Research is a cornerstone of the School of Public Health. Faculty and students conduct studies that address critical health priorities, including:

  • Environmental Health and Safety: Mitigating environmental hazards affecting population well-being.

  • Health Promotion and Behavior Change: Developing culturally sensitive strategies for disease prevention and health improvement.

  • Epidemiology and Biostatistics: Analyzing disease patterns and informing evidence-based policies.

International collaboration is strongly encouraged, expanding research capacity and promoting global solutions for public health challenges.
